Pentax DL

View Photo
Chris (my wife, if you haven't been following these notes) got a new camera, a Pentax DL – I refuse to bother with the name given the model series by some PR flack with an IQ matching his shoe size – and I tried it out myself. My first shot is at the link clickable above. I heartily approve of it. It's small and tucks nicely into the hand, and it conforms to the old Pentax less-is-more philosophy. Make no mistake, it's an entry-level camera – for example, you can't move the focus point – but then so is a Leica M6, by modern standards. The 16-45 zoom seems decent too, though it's a bit flimsy. Then again, "flimsy" means "light," and that's important to Chris.

Light and pocketable are the two biggest factors in what camera I decide to buy. I'm looking at my third E550 pretty soon. I broke the other two. I had a E10 for a while but that was broken when I bought it. Traded it in for a Lumix FX8, but broke that a month or so after I bought it. :)

How's things with your E550? Still working?
