Father Dear Father

Where are you, Mother? Make it stop.
I dreamed a fire in Father's shop.
I dreamed his face was burning red.
I fell when I got out of bed
Because I hadn't any feet.
The nursery was full of heat.
Instead of air there was a smell.
I tried to call you when I fell
But couldn't even say your name.
I'm not surprised you never came.

When everything had gone to smash
They shoveled Father up like ash
And put him in a loving cup.
Mother, please, I can't wake up.
